This very small collection of squatter houses is nestled right up to the Catholic Cemetery in Chai Wan. This cemetery is one of the oldest on Hong Kong Island is incredibly large, covering several mountain sides (take a moment to use Google street view to an idea of the scale). The village and cemetery entrance are at the intersection of Lin Shing Road and Cape Collision Road. Very few people came by in the hour or so that I was drawing. And most were foreign tourists, not local people. There is a crematorium another kilometer up the mountain which is visually very peculiar. The building itself is shaped like an urn. I’ll be back to spend some time drawing up there some day. Until then, I’m going home for lunch and ice cream.
