Some days I don’t chose to draw because I want to draw what is there, but draw something because there is a place to sit. That was the case here at Leighton Road. I had been wanting to draw St. Paul’s Convent across the street. But St. Paul’s is under construction and security asked me to move along. Just as well seeing how I didn’t have a hard hat with me. St. Paul’s Convent looks like it came right out of Palladian Italy. Beautify scaled columns and Roman arch order supporting a well balanced dome. Oh well. I’ll come back in a year when they are done working. In the meantime I decided to draw Leighton Street since I was here and there was a place to sit and rest. But, wouldn’t you know it? Not long after I started drawing a construction crew came up and began jack-hammering a hole in the sidewalk in front of me.

As a side note: there was a lot of pedestrian traffic going to The Rugby 7’s one block east from here. It’s a very big event here in Hong Kong and people come from all over the world to see it (except us ignorant  Americans). Not having grown up with the sport I don’t understand the game, but the fans are fun to watch as they dress up or come in costume. To me it looks like Carnival for hooligans!

Ha Ha! Just my luck to find a great place to sit and rest then have construction crews show up. But as someone told me later that day: they had reserved the spot long before I showed up. So that’s just life in the big city. 😉
