Here I am riding the lift to Artland to buy paper. I love chrome elevators!

My name is John and I am an artist living in Hong Kong. I work as a freelance designer and artist as well as a guest lecturer and private art tutor/teacher. Need help with your technique or just want to learn some basic skills? Drop me an email to arrange a time for lessons. Want to join me for an outing? Drop me an email to ?nd out where I’m working at the moment. We can do lunch after.
So why am I publishing this blog in the first place? Well, I have decided to produce a drawing a day and a full painting every Friday (except Saturday, Sunday and public holidays) to explore and meet the people here. This blog is a diary of my paintings, drawings and musings along the way. Besides drawing and painting every day somewhere in Hong Kong, I also plan to edit all posts via my phone while I’m on location. That will give me something to do while watching paint dry I can be found wandering around Hong Kong with my sketchbook and paints
capturing landscapes and daily life. So look for me and say hello. Love to meet you for a quick chat.

Bio: In my previous life I lived in the United States working as a full time scenic designer and member of the United Scenic Artists of America. I worked mainly on the east coast, but will travel anywhere someone will pay me. I’ve designed shows from Philly to New York and had a few gallery exhibits along the way. Check out my website to see my work: www.johnhobbie.com. Beyond that, there’s not much to tell that isn’t personal. Just keep coming back. I get better.

How often will I get a chance to ride the lift to the top of the IFC?!
