What a great day. First, not only did I get to sit and draw at the flower market (which smells great when the red mini buses are away), I also found a replacement stool that fits in my back back. I have been sitting on the ground the last 3 days and have gone out of my way to draw in places that have something to sit on. Not the best way to choose a subject. But today I just sucked it up and sat on the curb. More than once a bus parked in front of me and I had to ask the driver to pull forward. I’m glad they were all willing to help, so a shout out to the
all the SKW bus drivers. Yo! Gough go! In the forefront of this drawing is the flower market, but as the market recedes it becomes the fruit/meat market I have drawn before. This particular market takes up about 3 city blocks and wraps around the buildings you see in the background. The odd shaped sign hanging over everything is an abstract bat symbol, the token animal of pawn shops in Hong Kong.

And last but not least, adding to my great day, I met with Kong Kai Ming at the HK Art Museum. He was very kind and presented me with two prints and two signed books of his work. Dou je sai, Sing Saan. Thank you very much. And thank you for taking time out of your day to talk with me. I also appreciate you critique of my work. It is rare to meet someone willing to be frank and open about your work and making suggestions for improvement. Also, special thanks to Sandra of the HK Art Museum for arranging the meeting and giving us a venue to talk about art. And finally, thanks to Rickie for taking the afternoon off and coming down to act as our interpreter.

Wow. Nothing left to do now but go home and have a big hot-pot dinner of fresh abalone and scallops and bean thread noodles and meatballs and choi and……..

Thanks Asrai. And let’s see if talking with one of Hong Kong’s masters makes any difference to my drawing.

I bet it will! Just being around your ‘heroes’ is enough to add inspiration I think!
