Today is the last day of Chinese New Year and a big celebration day for the goddess Gwan Yin. I just happen to come out of Fortress Hill Station as a parade in her honor passed by. It was fun to watch the parade pass. Who ever organized the parade didn’t give much thought to the order of the marchers, however. The marching band and Chinese drums came back to back down the street. And the only word I can use to describe the sound is cacophony. It sounded like someone was rolling the horn section down the road in a barrel full of rocks and broken glass. In direct contrast, the Buddhist monks were strolling a long way behind the competing bands. There were about 20 of them in all playing small bells, cymbals and blocks of wood, lighting tapping on them in a seemingly random manner. The end result was a sound much like rain dripping from trees in the forest. Very soothing, harmonious and random.

After about ten minutes the parade passed by and I drew this picture looking East down King’s Road. It took 2 hours to complete. The buildings on the left were covered from top to bottom with bamboo scaffolds and netting. They look like a Christo sculpture wrapped in dark green. Now I’m off to get a cup of hot chocolate. This dreary damp weather goes through to the bones.parade-gwan-yin

It seems you love North Point. I live in North Point now and I think that is one of the energizing place in Hong Kong. I love North Point too. The other place what I love is Sham Shui Po. Sham Shui Po this place seems very dirty but people who live in there are friendly and price of products are very cheap too.

Hi Carmen. Thanks for visiting my site. I think North Point is great. I used to live on Marble Road directly behind the opera house. I enjoyed it very much and shopping at the local markets taught me a lot about what it means to live in Hong Kong. I have been to Sham Shui Po shopping for a cheap set of computer speakers, but not to draw. Keep an eye later in the year. I am planning on exploring that side of Hong Kong this coming Autumn.

Hi Remy, I have never been to Kwai Fong. I will be drawing mainly on Hong Kong island until next fall. Look for drawings from Kowloon around October. Thanks for visiting my blog. Stop and say hello next time you see me. Good luck with school.
