Happy Cinco de Mayo! Odelay wei! I know nobody cares about Mexican history in Hong Kong, but this is a big holiday in the USA. The 5th of May is often confused with Mexico’s independence, but it is really the day when the Mexican Army accidentally defeated the French in Pueblo, 1862. Most Mexicans don’t celebrate Cinco de Mayo unless they are in Pueblo or the US. So why does the US bother to celebrate another countries holiday? Same reason we celebrate Oktoberfest: booze. Specifically: margaritas. And for all you out there lacking a good recipe for margaritas I have this one given to me by a dear friend in Ft. Worth, Texas: 1 pint can frozen lime aid dumped in 2 quart container. (Pints and quarts are units of volume in the US. Everyone else can use liters) ;P Use the empty can to add 1 can of water and 1 can of tequila. And finally 1 can of cheap beer. Do not use good beer. It cost too much and makes 0 (zero) difference to the final product. The beer will foam for a second. When it settles in a few seconds, stir and serve over ice. For the sake of disclosure I should let you know that even though this recipe is great, I don’t drink them anymore after I swore I would never do it again. 😉

So what does all this have to do with the picture above? Nothing. The picture is of my laundry drying in the window. I tried to get started on the mural today, but the cloud ceiling is around 30 meters. The humidity is in the 90-95% range.  There is not so much a fog today as a general wetness to everything. And as much as I wanted to paint it was just not going to happen. I spent the morning bending plants off the wall and scrubbing away caked on dirt. Everything is ready to go but the weather. Tomorrow is forecast to be sunny. So I’ll get up early and try again. Doesn’t it seem the more you need the weather to agree with you the more likely it is that it won’t. Below is a picture of the low hanging clouds over the village.
