I was feeling pretty lazy today and decided to go for a long walk. I left from Big Wave Bay and followed the Hong Kong Trail over to the Chai Wan Cemetery. After a snack and some rest while looking over the city, I turned back and came down the trail that heads past the Cape Collinson Correctional Facility. And wouldn’t you know it: they have a marching band. I spent a good ten minutes watching the band march from one end of a basketball court to the other. The music faded in and out depending on the wind direction, but the drums came through pretty good. I’ve always said that if I get sent to prison, I want to go here. CCCF has the best view in Hong Kong, great location surrounded by park land, tennis and basketball, and apparently a marching band. I shot a brief video and it picked up the audio fairly well (turn up the volume to hear it), but the band is too small to see. But I think you’ll get the idea.
In the end I made it back around to BWB, got an ice cream and took a long rest on the beach and watched the waves come in. And just before I left for home I did this quick sketch/ink wash of tower #2 on a piece of handmade paper I’ve been carrying around. It was done just as the sun was going down behind the mountain, giving the tower and hillside a high contrast moment before everything fell into shadows – I say left for home. What I mean is I walked down the sidewalk to my house 5 minutes away to eat my birthday cake. Now you know why I’m being lazy today. 😉
I missed hiking… can’t do much now with a toddler..
Hi Aileen, you’re right. These are difficult trails for toddlers. But my 5 year old has no problem on the larger paths, so not too long now before you’re out exploring again. Thanks for visiting my site.
Belated Happy Birthday to you! I’ll have mine at the end of this April! =P
Thanks Andy. And Happy Birthday to you as well. Eat lots of cake!
