Walking to Po Wah Yun

The weather today was……torrential. It rained so hard it rained up. At first I was soaked up to my knees. Then, thanks to traffic moving way too fast for the conditions, I was soaked up to my chest. And just to add injury to insult, a taxi was going to fast down a market street of pedestrians and clipped my backpack before I could get out of the way. I did not have anything pleasant to say as he sped off through the crowd. With my serenity in serious jeopardy, I continued on to see Simon Birch’s work at the Medical History Museum. It was spectacular. This is the best work I’ve seen of a Hong Kong artist since moving here (Simon is a British citizen who has born and raised here). The work was very fresh, immediate and full of bold color and strokes. Wow. I put Simon in my top 100 favorite artists. This is fair to say since I don’t actually write down a list and couldn’t name 100 artists at any given time anyway. 😉 But all that aside, if given a chance, go see his work. You won’t won’t regret effort it took to go. Just watch out for taxis.

p.s. This painting is the color version of a posting a few months back. If this weather continues, all my paintings will be of older sketches.
