I went to Stanley Market early this morning. I found this location after climbing out on a rock cropping below Tin Hau Temple. When I began drawing the sun was just coming up and was back lighting the scene. During the 45 minutes I spent drawing, the sun gradually climbed above the trees and lit them from within. It was very peaceful watching the transition and listening to the waves rolling over the rocks. By the time I was finishing up, tourists began pouring into the market place. That is always my cue to wrap things up so that I can keep my memories of solitude and peace of mind. Not that I mind drawing among throngs of people, but only if I start drawing knowing that’s how things are going to be.
After packing up I took the opportunity to visit the various markets looking for a “tip” hat. All the hats I could find were for women. They all looked good, but the notion of wearing one spoiled my macho impression of myself and wouldn’t be productive getting tips ;p
I headed back home via the #14 and #9. While waiting on the #9 a friend from the village was passing by and gave me a lift home. So, special thanks to “Z Lo” for the ride. Now, only two more days of Thanksgiving leftovers…
Hi John:
I have really been enjoying your daily drawings. Sounds like you are really getting to know the countryside. If I werent’ such a traditionalist (and a chicken), Ed and I would just cash in on this “American Dream” we are trying to hang on to here in the States. This house has got a choke hold on us, especially during Ed’s much extended unemployment. I think you’ve got a much better, and calmer, existence. Enjoy! And keep those drawings coming!
Thanks Kathy. Don’t know if things are better and calmer. But you only live once, so I’m trying to make the best of it. Best to you and the family. Come visit sometime.
Hi John,
So nice meeting you on the street outside the ShingWang Temple
with your painting the Tram Terminal at Shaukiwan. I see your 8 paintings of November 2010 and also the latest one the above Tram
in spot.
You’re a nice guy and I hope you can enjoy in your stay here.
Best regards,
Tony
Thank you Tony. I am enjoying my stay in Hong Kong and have received nothing but kind words and welcome since I have been here. Hope to see you again while I’m out painting.
