I began this painting today after seeing a short interview with Sim Chan on RTHK’s The Works last night. Sim Chan reminded me that Hong Kong is tall and canyon like. I like being caught off guard and immediately stretched some paper and began painting this view of the sky through buildings. I am using Chinese paint which is very similar to gouache but at about 1/3 the cost. I am laying it on heavy and am trying for some kind of impasto style. I’m not finished at the moment and need some time to digest how the paint is behaving. But no worries about getting it done tomorrow since the weather will be very much like today: torrential rain, driving winds and lighting. I spent most the day inside today (stepping out only to take the garbage to the dumpster) and plan on doing the same tomorrow. I’ll be doing more mixed media work and have broke out my inks and pastels to finish this one. I haven’t done this kind of art in a while and feel a little rusty. I keep telling my self to relax and just do it. But fear of failure is your own worst enemy. I should have it done by mid-afternoon if I can just follow my own advise. “Don’t Panic!”
New Painting – unfinished
Very nice, saw the later post with the finished piece and thought it was a view up at buildings, glad I am right…. Fear of failure, sounds familiar, describes me perfectly. I keep telling the kids the opp and I can’t follow my own advice…sigh.
Thanks. I’m just being playful as long as I’m stuck inside. Between the heat and the rain I might not go out until next October. 😉
